Research and development can be a tough pill to swallow. Moving ahead with a tool then taking it to it maximum limitations can be fun or sometimes disappointing. We've spent tens of thousands on dollars and testing. We've experimented real life scenarios such as using one size smaller o-ring designed for the groove to find that the seal fails at a substantially lower pressure. Who would've thought that 0.015" could make that big of difference? We learn a lot from testing and sometimes ideas simply don't work due to hole restraints, functionality, or economics. In the video above we're testing the stroke sequence of a permanent bridge plug. The test surprised even our most seasoned Toolhand Todd Pember. Enjoy!
Shown in this video we were proving the affects of changing areas of a tool when you have two opposing surface area differences on a piston. We all know Pascal's Law of F=P x A. So as soon as you apply pressure it creates motion.
We came up with an ingenious way to set plugs and retainers on a swab unit or tugger line. In this video we have a floating chamber that's pressurized with nitrogen. Once the swab unit is on depth, they'll stop suddenly and the chamber trips a mechanical valve to release pressure into a stack of pistons creating force and motion.
